Hi! I’m Caitlin. Strawflower Floral was born out of my desire to not only surround myself with flowers, but to share the way I see flowers with others. Every little petal, the sounds (yes, sounds!), the textures, the variances of color that look like tiny brush strokes from a painter, the way a wonky shaped stem interacts with the others. My approach to arranging flowers is earthy, a little wild, textural, and figural. I love using unexpected ingredients and making sculptural arrangements. My husband and I grow many kinds of flowers but I can also source flowers from around the world.

My upbringing had a lot to do with my love of flowers - growing up with a horticulturist mother and spending a lot of time in the wilds of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan instilled an interest and appreciation for nature in me. I also studied Art at Illinois State University, and while I can’t draw to save my life, I learned a lot about color, shape, negative space, and composition.

Flowers aren’t meant to last forever. There’s something I like about their ephemeral nature - I think it’s an idea we need to be reminded of more often. Enjoy the flowers now. We aren’t here for a long time, just a good time.
